Activities
Surfing
One of Mexico's best-kept Left
breaking point break secrets is Caleta Bay. Be sure and try some
of the best surfing around.
Boating
Local panaga boats are the venue for snorkeling, whale watching,
turtle watching, fishing and sightseeing excursions. Often the
porpoises swim along.
Swimming
The curve of the bay keeps the surf calm on most days, allowing
for safe water play and swimming.
Snorkeling
Chacala and its sister bays of Chacalilla and Las Cuevas host
some of the best snorkeling along the coast of Western Mexico.
There are also excursions to Islas Marias. Bring your snorkeling
equipment as there are no rental shops yet.
Tobarras
Jungle Ride
One hour north of Chacala is the Tobarra adventure. Enter the
mangroves by boat, look at all the wild life from birds to snakes
to crocodiles. It is about a two hour ride. There is a restaurant
and a swimming area. Beware of the crocodiles!
Fishing
Sport fishing can be found in the “blue water” (ocean
shelf) off Chacala. Fish for dorado ( mahimahi ) while watching
the whales, turtles and dolphins playing.
Guides
We have locals available to guide the visitor to their lodging,
take a tour of Chacala, make reservations, act as an interpreter,
act as a travel guide and more. Our guides are often our young
high school scholars who would like to help and practice their
English at the same time.
Massage
The
hourly rates for massages are varied, but the starting rate is
$25.00 she has special oils and what she needs for the massages.
Whale
Watching
The humpback whale comes to the peaceful waters of Chacala to
give birth to its young from December to March.
Hiking
Hikes to sister bays either north or south of Chacala via the
extinct volcano or through the jungle.
Birding
Susana has a list of over 170 species of birds that have been
cited by avid birders. Join North Americans and local Chacala
residents for early morning and late afternoon walks. Bring your
binoculars. We can provide the lists.
Tiganis
Once a week many Chacala visitors take a van to a close by market
day event. There are all kinds of stalls with Mexican artwork,
artifacts, clothes, plants, food, music and fresh produce. It
is a good way to visit another town and enjoy the ambiance.
Spanish
Lessons
All her students will agree, Trini is the best Spanish teacher
in Mexico. She conducts both private and group sessions. Group,
(3 to 6 students): $10.00 an hr. per person Individual/private
lessons: $15.00 an hr.
Hot
Springs
After a short car ride, one can soak in hot spring pools from
mild to hot.
Petroglyphs
A local guide is available to take visitors to the 2300-year-old
carvings.
Restaurants
The palapa-covered restaurants offer fresh shrimp, fish
and lobster delights along with beer, soda and margaritas.
Touring
Visit San Blas, the jungle ride, Tepic, surrounding tourist towns
and the weekly people's market in La Penita.
